To a particular Historical Archaeology Friend,
I think you might especially enjoy reading "Part Five: To the Precipice" of "An Echo In The Bone", by Diana Gabaldon. It might be a little hard without having read the thousands of pages which have shaped the characters to that point, but the main storyline is set amidst General Burgoyne's assault on Ticonderoga and the ensuing battles of Bennington and Saratoga. It is a novel of course, but I think the author has worked hard at trying to capture what it was like to live through those historic events and particularly to live in those times.
Along that vein you might find the author's notes interesting, especially the one on the location of Brigadier General Simon Fraser's grave. Yes, he is both a character in the novel and was a real person who fought and died at Saratoga.
